10,000,000 girls under the age of 18 marry each year. That's around... 833,333 a month, 192,307 a week, 27,397 a day, 19 every minute, or one girl every three seconds.
The early and forced marriage trap
Causes: poverty, traditional and religious practice, weak legislative enforcement, conflicts, dissasters and emergencies, gender inequality.
Consequences: Violence, abuse and forced sexual relations, isolation and psychological trauma, reproductive health issues (child mortality), literacy and lack of education, sexual health implications (HIV and AIDS).

Investing in girls:
birth registration, immunisation, nutrition, inheritance, land property, time, friends, literacy and numeracy skills, mobility, access to sexual health, secondary education, science maths and tech capabilities, safe spaces, networks / online communities, role models / mentors, financial literacy, business skills, bank account, access credit, vocational training, getting a good job, owning a business.
Looking at selling / giving away dolls. I looked at making Sock dolls, but I thought that was cheapening the message. Then I remembered worry dolls from shared earth (fair trade store) they are perfect, small but a reminder of the 'because I am a girl' message and campaign, I could attach a small paper with a web address.
