Filming with Dan: Tuesday 23rd Oct

Filming today took so much longer than I thought it would. But we finally got it done by half 5. After listening to both songs and planning for the whole 5-6minutes each, I spoke to Dan and said that I felt it was too long to film and we should cut it down a lot.

Originally this would be the loud song and the most energetic. Dan doesn't know the drumming for the last half as he has to work in fills and still hasn't managed to create something solid yet. So he chose the first part of the song with is quieter.

So I decided to switch the two songs. 
Answers would become the slow more chilled out video with this as influence.

So, we chose the last half of this track to make that loud and energetic filming. The inspiration is now here. Really we just flipped bout tracks so we still have a energetic one and a chilled one.




Before filming
I tried to plan looking at influences and how others film similar styles. These are shown the the 3 previous blog posts. However I understood once I started filming it's more about understanding the rule of thirds explained in the video below. Matt explained this to me yesterday.

I felt lost at the beginning of filmed because planning and drawing is so much more different than the real thing. You also cannot plan for un expected things. Today I borred lighting: bult the bulb had blown so I had to use lamps from the home. This added a orange glow to the film, so I'm hoping this will just add to the home-made feel. We filmed Answers first: it's a new song so I dont really know how it works, I feel this filming was more robotic. I also used a lot of the tripod when filming.

We had a break then filmed This isn't funny anymore.

I feel that I knew much more what I wanted and how to used the equipment properly. I captured more shots that I wanted showing depths, perception and focusing on certain areas of the drums at certain times in the song. I held the camera for most if not all of these takes. I felt it was easier to get the shots I wanted and was a lot quicker.

Looking at the film back me and Dan both could see that I was getting more confident with the equipment and we both adjusted better to working with each other.

Dan preferred to play the whole song through every time apposed to play in smaller sections. I feel we can now work together well and effectively with time. 

If I have enough time to film a interview I know we will work faster and have a much better outcome.

WE WILL HAND IN EQUIPMENT WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND DAN SAID HE WILL EDIT WITH ME. I WILL DOWNLOAD FINAL CUT PRO AND FINISH EDITING IN READING WEEK.
